In this vast world of differences there are some things that can unite strangers from all walks of life. Marvelous music, delightful dancing, and fabulous food, to name a few. All of which are waiting for you to experience at the best lūʻau on Oʻahu.

“Food has, is and will always be part of every journey of mankind. Years of ritual, tradition and culture intersect at the family table, shaping future generations one plate at a time. Mahalo (thank you) for joining tonight’s celebratory lū‘au, bringing our motto of one ʻohana, sharing aloha full circle.”

Aliʻi Dining

Aliʻi is the Hawaiian word designated for honored chiefs, leaders and royalty. The Center promises you a meal of royal proportions and treatment at their lūʻau and, in my opinion, they deliver!

Executive Chef, Felix Tai, has curated a selection of dishes that highlight the best of island tastes and freshness. A rich array of meats (fish, beef and pork), local fruits and vegetables, and side dishes ranging from traditional to modern. Be inspired by the traditional Aliʻi Lūʻau featuring “Onipa’a”, the beautiful story of Queen Lili‘uokalani, while feasting on delicious Hawaiian food fit for royalty.

Lūʻau Entertainment of Historical Proportions

The Ali’i Lūʻau Buffet features ‘Onipa‘a: A Celebration of Queen Liliuokalani. ‘Onipa’a, meaning steadfast, is a term used to honor, celebrate, and describe Queen Lili‘uokalani. The only sovereign queen and last reigning monarch of the beautiful Islands of Hawaiʻi. In her strength and love for her people one will find the true spirit of her motto “‘Onipa‘a.”

Queen Lydia Lili‘u Loloku Wewehi Kamaka‘eha or Queen Lili‘uokalani is considered not only to be an inspiring leader but also one of Hawai’i’s finest composers. The Center is proud to share remarkable stories from Her Majesty’s life, told through her own words, songs and original compositions.

Our delicious Imu baked Pua’a (smoked pig) is served nightly at the Ali’i Lu’au

The Aliʻi Lūʻau has it all!

At the best lūʻau on Oʻahu you will, of course, find a Hawaiian inspired menu that includes traditional favorites such as a whole imu pig. An imu is the traditional Hawaiian ground oven, variations of which exist throughout the Polynesian and Pacific Islands. This method is notably used to prepare the delicious whole roasted pig that is often the centerpiece of lūʻaus. In the early morning hours, an imu is built and used to dry age and steam a whole pig for 10 hours, to ensure the most tender and delicious meat for the Aliʻi Lūʻau.

This practice has been passed down through generations, and though it is not without modern influences, the preparation and utilization of the imu is only one of the ways the Center honors the long standing traditions of Polynesian cooking. Click here to watch as Chef Felix explains the process and his feelings on the honor of continuing this tradition.

Kane (men) dancing hula kahiko (ancient hula) at the Polynesian Cultural Center!

Hula is an entire storytelling language performed with heart and skill by many throughout the Hawaiian islands. The Center is honored to have halau hula dancers at the Aliʻi Lūʻau. These displays of traditional hula pair beautifully with Queen Lili‘uokalani’s original compositions, to show her life story and honor her spirit and beliefs.

The venue is beautiful and covered, meaning rain or shine you can enjoy your meal in comfort. The table service is also real as the Center is committed to the environment of Hawaiʻi and pride themselves on being as plastic free as possible.

The People Have Spoken!

The Aliʻi Lūʻau has been voted “Hawaii’s Best” presented by Star-Advertiser 12 years running and is a 6 time winner of “Reader’s Choice” in Hawaii Magazine. It is also a 4 time winner of the coveted Kahili Most Authentic Luau award.
