This amazing shopping center is found at the entrance to the world famous Polynesian Cultural Center in the little island town of Lāʽie, Oahu. With plenty of free parking and easy access, the Hukilau Marketplace is a popular spot for local residents to grab dinner with the kids, for guests of the Center to take a break and refuel, or for tourists to finish after a day at the beach. Pounders Restaurant  

Pounders was already mentioned in our first blog, but since it is the cornerstone eatery of the Marketplace, we want to make sure to mention it here also. The diversity of menu choices shows how they care about your experience. When you see meals being delivered to other diners, piled high with fresh, local ingredients, your taste buds will engage, and you will be tempted to try a little bit of everything. Pounders offers the notoriously popular Hawaiian Mango Pizza, the tasty Kalbi Ribs (with a side of amazing Ulu Mash), the delicious Crispy Whole Sunfish, and many other favorites. They are also the home of the shop-within-a-shop, Chunky Cookies, legendary for their dessert creations.

Elsie’s Smoothie Shack

Elsie’s Smoothie Shack has been a staple at the Marketplace for years, known far and wide for their patented frozen drink, the Mango ʽOtai. This bit of bliss is made from fresh, tropical fruits grown on Elsie’s farm just a few blocks down the highway. Or maybe you want a smoothie served in a fresh pineapple? This and more are served daily from their kiosk directly across from the main entrance to Pounders Restaurant. With each sip, you’ll taste the vibrancy and authenticity of Hawaiʽi’s local produce, delivering a true taste of the islands in every cup.

Sweet As Ice Cream

If you haven’t had New Zealand-style real fruit ice cream, get ready for perfection. This is the Rolls Royce of creaminess, magically infused with your favorite fruit. They even provide an option of a dairy-free ice cream. Just ask for the “milk-free” version, made with coconut cream. It’s absolutely incredible!  With its delightful combination of creamy texture and fresh flavors, Sweet As Ice Cream has earned a devoted following among locals and tourists alike. Tutu’s Sweet Shop

This one isn’t a truck, but it definitely fits the great-things-to-eat category. “Tutu” means “grandma” in Hawaiian, and this little store is filled with everything your tutu could have dreamed of spoiling you with, and more. Handmade fudge, dipped chocolates, and a variety of island-themed candies, popcorn, and nuts. Every treat is crafted with love and care, just like Grandma would make! You’ll find delights that cater to every sweet tooth, from rich, creamy chocolate barks infused with local macadamia nuts, to chewy, caramel-coated popcorn that offers a perfect blend of sweetness and crunch. Experience a taste of Hawaiian hospitality as you sample tropical-fruit-infused treats, each bite carrying the essence of the islands. Located in front of the Pacific Theater, Tutu’s Sweet Shop is a must-visit for anyone looking to indulge in authentic island confections and create sweet memories.

With 20 flavors to choose from, making your selection may be difficult! Each serving is meticulously crafted, ensuring the ice is shaved to the perfect consistency and the syrup is evenly distributed. A delicious bite every time! From classic flavors like strawberry and blue raspberry to unique local options like mango and passion fruit, there’s something to satisfy every palate. The vibrant colors of the shave ice not only make for a delightful snack, but also perfect for an Instagram moment. Look for the shave ice kiosk near the Marketplace gazebo.

 

Hale Pops Hot Dog & Fries

Hale Pops’ dogs are not your typical hot dogs. These bad boys should be considered an art form of deliciousness. Take your premium beef dog— plump, juicy and perfectly grilled—and choose from a variety of fascinating toppings to take your meal to the next level.

Pops has come up with a number of ingenious combinations, like their Cali Dog, made with bacon, avocado, cucumber, French fries, spicy mayo, green onions, and furikake! Who knew hot dogs could be this ono (delicious)?

 

Kiwi Korner 

New Zealand is known for their amazing meat pies, and Kiwi Korner brings on some of the best with their flaky, flavorful handheld treats. These savory delights feature fillings that range from traditional beef and cheese to unique option that offer a delightful twist to the classic.

And don’t forget desserts! Whether it’s delicious cream puffs or amazing truffles, each is crafted with the utmost attention to quality and taste. Each bite promises a taste of New Zealand’s culinary excellence, right here in Hawaii.

You’ll find them curbside on the south end of the Marketplace, making it an accessible stop whenever you’re craving something savory or sweet.

 

Shaka Shake Korean BBQ 

This is Korean Hawaiian Fusion BBQ. Our resident Korean BBQ truck is the home of the Shaka Shake. The idea is to take the bowl of delicious ingredients, then shake to blend all of the flavors. Shaking the bowl ensures that every bite is filled with a perfect mix of savory, sweet, and spicy flavors that will tantalize your taste buds. Whether you’re already a fan of traditional Korean BBQ or looking to try something new, Shaka Shake offers a unique dining experience that celebrates the rich cultural tapestry of Hawaii. This food truck can be found at the south end of the Marketplace.
